Q & A

Does Shift service bikes?

Yes! We will service any bike!

Wondering about e-bikes? Probably, but it’s a bit more complicated – see more here!

Does Shift provide a warranty on bike service?

Yes! We will warranty any parts or labor which we deem to have been faulty, incomplete, or unsatisfactory. That doesn’t include damage incurred after the bike leaves the shop, customer modifications, or other unforeseen issues.

Do I need an appointment?

No, bring your bike in anytime we’re open! If you depend on your bike and don’t want to be without it for more than one day, we will set up an appointment once we’ve seen the bike and assessed what it will need. You will then drop off the bike the night before or the morning of the appointment and pick it up at the end of the day.

Does Shift service wheelchairs, hand-cycles and other non-motorized mobility devices?

Yes! We have experience with a variety of alternative and adaptive methods of transportation, and will either get you back on the road or help get you to the someone who will.

Pricing

We strive to provide you with high quality service at a reasonable price. Shift uses a unique three-tiered service model based on the outcome you want for your bike. The system is designed to be consumer-friendly, and not charge for service your bike doesn’t need.

  • SAFE

My bike just needs to be safe to ride (tires hold air, pedaling makes the bike roll, brakes will stop), but understand and expect it to need a deeper service in the near-future. Shift will do only what is absolutely necessary for safety, and keep the cost as low as they can. If something is broken and must be replaced, I am comfortable with using Shift-selected used parts.

  • GOOD WORKING ORDER

My bike should work well enough for daily use, but may have small imperfections, noises, or non-serious issues which can be addressed at a later date. Shift will perform the work necessary to ensure the bike will serve me well for at least a few months without additional service, and at a reasonable cost. I am comfortable with Shift-selected quality used or new replacement parts as needed.

  • LIKE NEW

My bike is a prized possession and I need it in tip-top shape for the year, with everything looking and feeling as smooth as possible. Shift will leave no stone unturned, and I am willing to pay to make that happen. I want new, high quality replacement parts as needed.

What is the service process?

  • Bring in your bike and let us check it over from tail to nose. participate in the process or leave it with us, your choice. An assessment is free for analog bikes (for e-bikes, click here).

Following the assessment we will provide you with a quote based on your desired outcome. We will never exceed a quote without your permission.

  • Once you’ve chosen to proceed with the service, we will schedule the bike in our repair calendar and provide you with an estimated completion date. If the bike requires a part we need to order, the repair will be scheduled once the part has arrived. Should you decline the quote, please be prepared to pick up the bike within a week. If you have a need to leave the bike for a longer period, Shift will charge a storage fee beginning on the 8th calendar day from the quote notification.

  • We strive to build your quote right the first time, but occasionally a problem isn’t obvious until work has begun. If we find an additional issue which must be addressed, we will get in touch and work with you to find the best solution. We will not perform additional work without your approval, but please know that occasionally a problem may arise which must be addressed in order for us to continue with the service.

  • As soon as your bike is ready to ride, we will contact you. You can then pick it up any time we’re open, with payment due in full at time of pickup. Can’t make it right away? That’s ok! Shift expects all parts and service to be paid for within a week of completion (in person or by phone), and bikes to be picked up within two weeks. If you have a need to leave the bike for a longer period, Shift will charge a storage fee of $2 per day, beginning on the 15th calendar day from notification of completion. If the bike is not paid for and picked up within 30 days, Shift may consider it abandoned and automatically accept it as a donation. We don’t want to have to do this, but we have limited space!
