In The Dirt Documentary Screening

In The Dirt Documentary Screening

Sponsored by MTN Crossing MTB; Shift will be screening the MTB documentary “In The Dirt.”

"IN THE DIRT" is a documentary film about a group of passionate Native American cyclists who attempt to bring the sport of mountain biking to the Navajo Nation, where no bike shops exist.

In 2018, retired pro cyclist Scott Nydam and his family moved to Gallup, New Mexico, to pursue a healthcare job for his wife. Soon after their arrival, Scott began meeting passionate mountain bikers across the 28,000-mile expanse of the Navajo Nation who loved the bike and wanted to bring the sport to their communities. The only problem is that no bike shops existed. Through a grassroots native-led effort, this group of dedicated cyclists and their families have overcome countless odds to build a cycling culture that today has become the fastest-growing recreational sport on the Navajo Nation.

Cycle Shorts: Short Film Screening

Cycle Shorts: Short Film Screening

Shift will be screening a selection of short films celebrating bike joy and women in cycling. Snacks will be provided. $5 donation suggested but not required to attend.

Films featured:

(Films highlighting women cyclist marked with an *)

*Days Off | A Short Biking Film: A short film following Daniela, a junior doctor who used biking as an escape during the pandemic.

*Identity and Endurance with Alexandera Houchin: Alexandera is an Ojibwe woman, an artist, a farmer, a mechanic, a cyclist and a person who cares deeply about her community on the Fond Du Lac reservation near Cloquet, Minnesota. “Stronger Together” takes an intimate look into Alexandera’s life while examining concepts of identity, forgiveness and what it means to merge seemingly different aspects of your soul in order to continue moving forward, one pedal stroke at a time.

*Life of Pie: Pizza and Bikes Can Fix Anything: In 2002, mountain bikers and entrepreneurs Jen Zeuner and Anne Keller moved to Fruita, Colorado, in search of cheap rent, world-class single track, and free time to ride. Over 15 years later, the two unconventional women have helped reshape one of the state’s most conservative towns, uniting the community through advocacy, inclusivity, and damn good pizza.

*Switching Lanes | A short documentary about how a cheap bike changed a life: A woman from Bangkok feels alienated by the comparatively languid pace of San Francisco until a bike restored from a dumpster changes everything.

The Bike Life | Creativity on Wheels in New York City: Bike Life is a subculture born out of pain, then turned into creativity, not unlike other social and culturally related activities. Riders flaunt their talent, continually create new tricks and hone their bike skills. It’s a way of life. One must be passionate about riding, maintain a positive mindset and be serious about having fun. A documentary by The Red Bulletin.

I BIKE. Documentary: This short movie develops ideas surrounding the fixed gear scene and biking community of Montreal.

Disciples of Dirt: All Comer’s Meet

Disciples of Dirt’s annual All Comer’s Meet has arrived!

“DOD’s most popular annual event: All Comer’s Meet! ACM is an ALL ages, ALL abilities, ALL inclusive, and ALL weather social ride, party and fundraiser held at the Carpenter Bypass Trail System (Whypass) just outside of Lorane, Oregon. We are now in our 19th year of hosting All Comer’s Meet and it has become a much anticipated bright light in the dark rainy days of January. ACM is by far our largest fundraiser, with all proceeds* going towards improving the Carpenter Bypass network. This past year we were able to pay professional trail builders to help us add a one mile downhill jump line that connects the Yellow Gate to The Pile. So please join us on the traditional MLK holiday weekend for the most fun you’ll have all winter!
*The event is free but donations for raffle tickets are encouraged.”
